Children’s Wellbeing

At William Harding School, we believe that every child’s wellbeing is important.

We want our children to feel safe, happy, valued and confident, and to know that there are adults they can talk to when they need support.

We take a whole-school approach to wellbeing. This includes teaching children about their emotional and social wellbeing, providing support when children need it and working closely with families and other professionals.

Our Wellbeing and Behaviour Curriculum

At William Harding School, we recognise that wellbeing and behaviour are closely connected. We want children to feel safe, valued and understood, while developing the knowledge, skills and strategies they need to manage themselves, build positive relationships and make positive choices.

Our Wellbeing and Behaviour Curriculum is an important part of our whole-school approach. It is planned around the needs of our school community and is flexible so that we can respond to emerging needs, issues and experiences as they arise.

Wellbeing and positive behaviour are not taught in isolation. They are developed through dedicated sessions, everyday routines and relationships, and are embedded throughout school life and the wider curriculum.

Our Tiered Approach to Wellbeing Support

Every child is different, and their wellbeing needs can change over time. Our Tiered Approach to Wellbeing Support helps us provide the right support at the right time.

Our support ranges from:

  • Universal Provision – support available to all children through our everyday curriculum, relationships and school-wide approaches.

  • Additional support from school staff – for children who need some extra help with their wellbeing.

  • Support from our in-school specialists – including our FLO Team and counsellor.

  • External support – working with families and appropriate external agencies where more specialist support is needed.

We identify needs early, work closely with children and families, and review support as needs change.
